Amyloidosis of the liver causing jaundice.

چکیده
Introduction Patients suffering from amyloidosis frequently have liver involvement. Although some of the stigmata of chronic diffuse liver disease may be seen and some liver function tests may be abnormal, particularly the bromsulphthalein excretion and alkaline phosphatase, the presence of hepatic involvement in amyloidosis is usually of little clinical significance (Brandt, Cathcart and Cohen, 1968). Jaundice, except as a terminal event, is extremely rare. A case of amyloidosis presenting with abdominal pain and jaundice is described.

Severe intrahepatic cholestasis in an elderly patient with primary amyloidosis and colon adenocarcinoma.
Hepatic involvement in primary amyloidosis (AL type) is not rare but is often clinically silent. However, presentation with jaundice in AL-type amyloidosis is rare, with an incidence of less than 5% reported in the literature. It is considered to be a preterminal sign. We herein report on a case of primary hepatic amyloidosis presenting with severe intrahepatic cholestasis. Viral, drug, alcohol...
متن کاملPrimary amyloidosis and severe intrahepatic cholestatic jaundice.
Liver involvement in systemic amyloidosis is frequent but is rarely of clinical importance. Five patients with severe cholestatic jaundice are described and an additional 20 from published reports are reviewed. The most frequent presenting symptoms were lethargy and abdominal pain, which were present for a median of 11 months before the onset of jaundice. Hepatomegaly, usually marked, was prese...
متن کاملA Rare Presentation of Multiple Myeloma: A Case Report of Hepatic Amyloidosis
The clinically reported case of liver involvement with multiple myeloma (MM) is rare. Amyloidosis, defined as a tissue deposition of clonal light-chain fibrils, has been reported in 10-15% of the MM patients. We described a rare MM patient with the primal presentation of fulminant hepatic failure and biliary system involvement due to amyloidosis. Our patient had the primal symptoms of hyperbili...
متن کاملPrimary Amyloidosis Manifesting as Cholestatic Jaundice after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
A 71-year-old female patient with cholelithiasis who had undergone laparoscopic cholecystectomy was admitted with obstructive jaundice (total bilirubin ~6 mg/dL) three months later. An ERCP was performed, in which a gallstone was found, followed by a sphincterotomy and cleansing of the bile duct. Due to deterioration of jaundice (>25 mg/dL), a new, unsuccessful ERCP and stent placement was carr...
متن کاملPrognosis of Hepatic Amyloidosis Status and Insufficiency in Snake Antivenom Producing Horses
Hyperimmunization of horses with specific antigens to harvest antisera is associated with high incidence of liver amyloidosis. The histopathologic examination is the gold standard method for diagnosis of the hepatic amyloidosis. The aim of the present study was to determine whether the clinical manifestations and serum values of appropriate chemical constituents due to liver injury, provide the...
